Scott Sandison scoops STI's Young Sail Trainer of the Year award

December 1st 2014

Scott Sandison's passion for sailing and his enthusiasm to share the sailing bug with other sail trainees have been recognised by Sail Training International to award him the title of Professional Young Sail Trainer of the Year 2014.  Through Sail Training Shetland, he had his first sail with Swan in 2010, then undertook two further journeys, in 2011 during the Tall Ships visit to Lerwick and again in 2012 as part of a European Youth In Action programme onboard Europa. Since 2013, Scott has sailed as Bosun onboard Swan with his journey's taking him to explore Orkney, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and all around Britain.

It was a double celebration on Saturday, as Curstaidh Mackay from Virkie was also awarded The Swan Trust Vevoe trophy for best sail trainee of the year. Curstaidh was one of ten trainees sponsored by Sail Training Shetland to sail onboard Swan in Nordic Sail in a two week voyage in the Skagerrak and Kattegat region.
